Welcome to the White Crane Ridge Underwater Museum. This unique museum preserves ancient hydrological inscriptions.

Legend has it that a Taoist priest and a white crane ascended to heaven from this very spot. The White Crane Ridge consists of stones that have recorded water changes of the Yangtze River for 1,200 years. It features a 1,000-year-old stone fish water gauge that can measure the water level, alongside stone carvings, calligraphy, poetry and paintings.

In the past, the rock ridge was submerged during summer and autumn. Today, it’s permanently underwater due to the Three Gorges Dam. Visitors can see these wonders thanks to two underwater escalators. The stone carvings and inscriptions are protected by glass. This allows us to see it in its natural state, preserving the stones’ ties with water.
